Good governance is identified as an enabler for emerging conservancies and conservancy associations. To this end,Marsabit Wildlife Conservancies Association – MAWICA,  in partnership with WWF-Kenya and  Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association KWCA, undertook a governance training for member conservancies in order to strengthen their capacity to thrive in the landscape.

 

The training convened secretariats and board members of MAWICA as well as representatives of 4 established and 4 nascent conservancies in Marsabit. The objective was to build the capacity of MAWICA to carry out its mandate of coordinating community-managed conservancies in the Marsabit landscape. The forum included topics on the Importance and Characteristics of a good conservancy, Policies and laws on wildlife land and environment, Legal compliance and managing finances
