Community-Led Climate Action in Marsabit County 🌿
This week, we launched a new phase of community-led initiatives in Shurr Conservancy, Marsabit County, where Indigenous communities are leading the way in building climate resilience.
With support from WWF-Kenya through the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) programme, and in partnership with PISP and MAWICA, local people are combining traditional knowledge with innovative solutions to respond to climate change.
✅ A 20-acre climate-smart demonstration farm

🐔 Poultry enterprises
🔥 Clean cooking solutions
These initiatives are improving food security, restoring degraded landscapes, creating income for women and youth, and growing a powerful grassroots movement, including the Urbisa tree regeneration campaign led by women in Marsabit and helping to renegerate vegetation.
The event was attended by key local and institutional leaders, including:
Dr. Isacko Tura, Institute Director, KALRO
Dr. Yusuf Adan, Biodiversity, Research and Innovation Manager, WWF-Kenya
Mr. Edwin Kalla, CEO, MAWICA – Marsabit Wildlife Conservancies Association
Katelo Ibrae, CEO, Pastoralist Integrated Support Programme
Mr. Mamo, Chairman, Shurr Conservancy
Area Chief, Isacko Warguto
This is climate justice in action: locally-driven, inclusive, and grounded in community priorities.
